June bookshelf

So, I have decided to try and almost force myself to get back to reading because after having so much academic literature to go through my desire to sit and fall into a written plotline has all but disappeared. Thus, my idea to ‘create’ a type of reading list of books I hope to read throughout the month.

This month I have decided to keep it to only two books as we are already one week into June, and I want to almost break myself into it.
The top of my list is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I have had this book for months now, probably before Christmas. It is my boyfriends and I just need to read it. I have no doubt that when I properly start this book I will be unable to put it down. I have a week to read this book before my boyfriend comes down to see me so the pressures on haha!
And the second book for this month is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I bought this for the flight out to New York but as the in-flights entertainment system had more than enough choice I didn’t have time to start it (and the holiday was itself so jam-packed that I was either sleeping or exploring). I know I am very late to the Gone Girl party as it where, but I can assure everyone that I know no spoilers (this makes a pleasant change) and have very little clue as to the plot.
Summer is always the time I start reading more, I hope this is true of this summer as well. I also need to start cracking on with Game of Thrones as I have only read the first one, but as they are hard going books I feel that they will be saved until I have some of the ‘shorter’ books read off of my bookshelf.
What are your reading/have read this month? Have you read either the Book Thief or Gone Girl? Any recommendations for me?
